Turning Conflict Into Conversation

Although conflict is a daily fact of life, most of us never really learned how to engage in it effectively. What's worse is that our dysfunctional patterns of how we interact during conflict have become ingrained and are hard to change. This workshop will provide an overview of why conflicts occur and the unmet needs that underlie them. It will also explore the weaknesses of traditional views and approaches to conflict, provide a new framework for conflict resolution, and teach the skills necessary to successfully navigate and resolve conflict in all settings (personal and work). Participants will learn how resist the urge to avoid conflicts, gain skills to effectively address conflict while at the same time preserving relationships and learn how to improve their communication skills so resolution can occur.

Pursuing Excellence: Coaching & Leading From A Strengths-Based Perspective

In recent years the fields of psychology and business have become increasingly focused on the identification and development of individual strengths. Unfortunately, there are too few opportunities for organizations to be trained in a strength-based approach, which would allow employers to more fully develop their employees. This course will describe the strength-based approach, explain why it is critical to use in supervision and describe the concrete benefits to utilizing this approach with employees (i.e., increased productivity and engagement, reduced absences, higher satisfaction, and lower turnover). Participants will learn how to build solid and productive relationships with their supervisees, lead from a place of influence, give difficult feedback in a way it can be received, and be able to assess and develop their strengths and those of their employees. Additionally, the course will explore when strengths can become a liability and how to effective overcome this challenge and provide participants with a new framework and approach to deal with difficult employees.
